Sougia is a small seaside village 200km west from Heraklion airport and 78km from Chania airport. It was another one together with Matala a favorite destination for hippies in the 70’s. It is great place for quiet and peaceful holidays, especially for families with children. It has a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters that stretches for approximately 1km.
There are a couple of restaurants, tavernas, bars and cafes by the beach to sit, relax and admire the view. The village has a variety of small hotels, villas, apartments, studios, Airbnb and let rooms.

Excursions nearby that you could go to by a rental car are the little church of Agia Eirini and the gorge of Agia Eirini as well. Another excursion is Omalos Plateau and you can walk to the famous Samaria Gorge. From Paleochora you can also take the daily boat to Sougia, Hora Sfakion, Loutro and Agia Roumeli where Samaria Gorge ends. You can also visit the Doric town of Elyros and Lissos (famous for its temple of Asklepios).
