Agia Pelagia is a relaxed sea resort in Heraklion and is 27km away from Heraklion airport.

Agia Pelagia is both relaxing and entertained and it is a good place for exploring Heraklion area and Rethymnon area. Close by it is the traditional villages of Ahlada and Rogdia. In the area there is the famous monastery of Savvathianon from 961. The cave of Doxa with the local family tavern that also makes some of the best honey in Crete. Another one is Voylismeno Aloni which a physical phenomenon takes place called Sinkhole. Also very close by is the beautiful beach of Lygaria along with taverns very close to the sea.

Rent a car in Fodele

Fodele is a small village 32km away from Heraklion airport and 122km from Chania airport.

It is famous because it’s the birthplace of Domenikos Theotokopoulos, the famous renaissance painter, also known as El Greco. A building that houses El Greco Museum and a cafe is dedicated to the famous painter and it is opposite 11th century Church of Annunciation of the Virgin Mary also worth visiting.

The place is within walking distance about 1km from the village center which is built in a valley full of lemon and orange groves famous all over the island. The area is very green because the village is located near the river Pantomantris. Just 3km north of the village is Fodele beach the western part of which is well organized with umbrellas, sun beds, shower facilities, water sports, cafes and tavernas.

By visiting both the village and the beach and the museum you can have a full taste of the place.

From Fodele it is easy to drive to Knossos Palace and Heraklion with the Archeological museum, the natural and the Historical museum. It is a nice city for shopping and night life. It is also nice to explore to the west, the Rethymnon town with the very interesting old town and the very famous beach in town. Bali, Panormos, Margarites, Eleftherna and the Monastery of Arkadi is another must, close to Fodele.
